Charles II (1674) Maundy Money Pendant

A$425.00

This coin is a real treasure! Minted in 1674, this is an example of Maundy Money, which are coins personally given out by the English monarch to people who have performed a great service to their community. This tradition dates back centuries and is still practised by the current King today! This particular example dates from the reign of Charles II, making it 351 years old - this coin was handed out by the King only 14 years after the restoration of the monarchy. A real piece of history!

The coin is worn, especially on the side showing the bust of Charles II. Since these coins were touched by the monarch, they are often kept as keepsakes and this one has been well loved. It looks like it’s been worn as a pendant and touched often - maybe like a good luck charm! Although well loved, the coin is in good condition with lots of great detail, and has plenty of life left as a pendant. I’ve added a new 18ct yellow gold bale so it can continue to be worn as a pendant, and hopefully bring some luck to its new owner!

18ct gold bale and 925 silver coin (both unmarked)

Measures approx 27mm long by 18.5mm.

Weighs approx 2.3g.
